Robert H. Spitz Foundation’s Fall 2025 Grant Cycle Now Open!

Beginning on Viernes, Agosto 1, 2025, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are invited to submit a Letter of Intent by Domingo, Agosto 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM.


The Robert H. Spitz Foundation awards grants to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that support initiatives and programs serving Lackawanna County and Northeastern Pennsylvania residents.


PLEASE NOTE: If the applying organization has received grant funding from the Robert H. Spitz Foundation for three consecutive years, it must wait one full year (two grant cycles) before applying again.


Spring 2025 Priority Areas Include:

Animal Welfare: Including but not limited to programs that support humane education, adoption for homeless animals, spay/neuter, trap neuter release (TNR), rescue, veterinary care and which help the economically disadvantaged and the elderly to keep their companion animals.


Environmental: Programs/projects that seek to preserve and/or protect the environment; raise awareness and/or educate about climate/environmental issues; and seeks to mitigate the impact of harmful practices to the environment and promote recreation/public health.

Veterans’ Affairs and Veteran-Oriented Programs:
Programs that support veterans and their families through access to healthcare, housing, job training, mental health services, and reintegration support. This includes initiatives addressing homelessness, PTSD, disability benefits, and community-based outreach tailored to the unique needs of those who have served in the military.

Once submitted, LOIs will be reviewed by a committee. If invited to submit a full application, applications will be due Martes, Septiembre 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM.

The Robert H. Spitz Foundation’s Fall 2025 grant cycle is the second of two planned grant cycles for 2025.

(Please note that the Robert H. Spitz Foundation will ONLY accept grant requests through the online portal. No paper or emailed applications will be accepted.)



The Scranton Area Community Foundation is proud to serve as administrator of the Robert H. Spitz Foundation, which has awarded more than $6 million in funding to support impactful work across the Lackawanna County region and Northeastern Pennsylvania since 2016.

Established through the estate of Scranton native Robert H. Spitz, the Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations focused on breaking the cycle of poverty, increasing access to affordable housing, transportation, and education, and promoting independence for adults and children. Additional priority areas include support for veterans, animal welfare, and Jewish culture and heritage.

We invite eligible nonprofit organizations to apply for funding to help create meaningful change in our region.
