A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is like a charitable savings account—it lets you set aside funds for giving, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants to your favorite nonprofits anytime.
At the Scranton Area Community Foundation, opening a DAF is easier and more accessible than many people realize. Endowed Donor Advised Funds start at just $5,000, making it possible for individuals, families, and businesses to create a lasting legacy of giving at a level that fits their goals and budget.
The Foundation currently administers more than 450 charitable funds, including Donor Advised Funds established by generous people who care deeply about strengthening our community. Together, these funds award millions of dollars in grants each year to support local nonprofits and vital causes across Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Octubre 9 is National DAF Day, a nationwide celebration of generosity through Donor Advised Funds. It’s a day to put charitable dollars to work for the greatest good—locally and beyond.
For Donors and Those Interested in Using a Donor Advised Fund (DAF):
- Give through your DAF: Recommend a grant on or before Octubre 9 to support urgent needs in our community or create lasting impact.
- Add to your DAF now: Make a new contribution so your funds are ready to give out on DAF Day.
- Spread the word: Encourage friends, family, or colleagues who have DAFs to take part in this national day of generosity.
For Nonprofit Organizations:
- Get ready to receive DAF gifts: Register with Chariot/DAFpay so your organization can easily accept Donor Advised Fund (DAF) grants.
- Let donors know: Share that your nonprofit accepts DAF gifts and invite supporters to give through their funds.
- Tell your story: On Octubre 9, highlight your mission, a success story, or a campaign that shows your impact.
- Show appreciation: Thank donors quickly and share updates on how their gifts are making a difference to keep them inspired and connected.
