This year, over 70 scholarships are available to graduating high school students and current college students for a variety of studies, interests, and more, including (but not limited to):

Starting in 2023, applications for the James F. Swift Scholarship will be completed through the Scranton Area Community Foundation’s Universal Scholarship Application.

The James F. Swift Scholarship provides local high school seniors graduating from a Lackawanna County high school $5,000/year for each recipient (renewable for a total of 4 years) to assist with continuing education expenses.

2022 James F. Swift Scholarship Recipients

The James F. Swift Scholarship Fund has awarded over $3.7 million since 2008, benefiting over 280 local students to date.

2023 Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation Careers in Care Nursing Scholarships

   

This competitive nursing scholarship program aims to support the growth and development of the nursing workforce in NEPA with $200,000 in scholarships to be distributed for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The Careers in Care Nursing Scholarship available to students and healthcare workers in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties who plan to pursue, or who are pursuing, nursing and who will practice in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

To qualify for Careers in Care Nursing Scholarships, individuals must:

• Have had a permanent address in Lackawanna, Luzerne, or Wyoming County for the last three years
• and be currently pursuing one of the following career paths:
  • Looking to enter a CNA, ASN, or LPN program;
  • Currently employed in the healthcare field and looking to advance to a LPN, RN/BSN, or Masters Level program;
  • Students entering their third or fourth year of a four-year nursing degree and looking for financial assistance;
  • Estudiantes "no tradicionales" o que deseen volver a estudiar para obtener un certificado o título de enfermería

Scholarship recipients are asked to demonstrate a commitment to stay in the Northeastern Pennsylvania region.
