501(c)(3) organizations play an important role in educating the public about policy issues and actions taken by elected officials. These actions may be consistent with or conflict with a nonprofit’s position on a topic. In partnership with Bolder Advocacy, the Center for Community Leadership & Nonprofit Excellence will present a virtual workshop on Wednesday, November 16, to provide 501(c)(3) organizations with a clear understanding of what kinds of advocacy activities they can engage in, how to maximize advocacy, and when communications can be considered lobbying.

In this seminar, you will learn:

  • How lobbying is defined
  • How federal tax law permits lobbying for charities
  • Yearly lobbying limits for charities
  • How to maximize the amount your organization is allowed to spend on lobbying
  • Tips on how to take advantage of the definitions of lobbying
  • How to apply the rules on lobbying to measure ballot activities
