Johnson College hosted STEM event, made possible through Women in Philanthropy!

  To coincide with International Women’s Day, on March 8, Johnson College hosted Girls on Fire, a unique one-day STEM event for 6-9th grade students in Lackawanna County to learn about career opportunities in non-traditional STEM fields. Johnson College had been awarded a $5,000 grant from Women in Philanthropy to make this event possible. The event included tours of the Johnson College campus, presentations on various STEM-related programs, lunch, and hands-on activities in 3D printing and carpentry. Over 80 students from Scranton, Valley View, and Carbondale school districts attended.     Thanks to your generous support, this event was made possible!

International Women’s Day, which takes place annually on March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. Laura Ducceschi receives ATHENA Award during International Women’s Day Luncheon

  Scranton Area Community Foundation’s President and CEO, Laura Ducceschi, was presented with the 2023 ATHENA Leadership Award during the International Women’s Day Luncheon on Wednesday, March 8, at Marywood University hosted by the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce. The ATHENA Leadership Award, sponsored locally by Michael A. Barbetti LLC Certified Public Accountants, honors an exceptional individual who has achieved excellence in their business or profession, has served the community in a meaningful way, and has assisted women in their attainment of professional goals, and leadership skills.

Now accepting grant applications!

  Thanks to your generosity, Women in Philanthropy is now accepting grant applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and educational institutions for its 2023 grant cycle. Grant requests for 2023 must cover projects in one or more of the following focus areas:  

• Civic Engagement & Advocacy
• Financial Education
• Housing
• Childcare
• Mental Health
• STEAM Education

    Applications will be accepted until March 17, 2023, at 5:00 PM. Applications will then be reviewed by a committee. Finalists will have the opportunity to present at the WIP Quarterly Meeting on April 20. Final grant decisions are made via a vote conducted by Women in Philanthropy supporters. The maximum grant award will be $10,000; the average grant award will be $5,000. Learn more here…All grant applications MUST be received through the Scranton Area Community Foundation’s online grant portal.   These grants will provide support to organizations that are working on innovative projects or programs in the identified focus areas that work to transform the lives of women or girls across the Northeastern Pennsylvania region.
