Fruits & Roots Community Fridge Project Celebrates Two Years!

On August 12, the Fruits & Roots Community Fridge Project celebrated two years of feeding neighbors, building connections, and demonstrating what’s possible when a community comes together to care for one another.
Launched in 2023 as Northeastern Pennsylvania’s first community fridge, this volunteer-powered effort provides fresh, free food to residents of Lackawanna County from its welcoming home outside the Valley Community Library in Peckville. Rooted in mutual aid, dignity, and food justice, the fridge operates on a simple principle: neighbors supporting neighbors—no questions, no barriers.
To support its long-term sustainability, the Fruits & Roots Community Fridge Project Fund helps keep the fridge stocked, accessible, and impactful for years to come.
Created in 2023, the Fruits & Roots Community Fridge Project Fund supports volunteer-run, mutual-aid refrigerators that provide free access to fresh food in Lackawanna County. The Fund is administered by the Scranton Area Community Foundation.
