Report to the Community

A Message from our President and CEO:

In 2021, the Scranton Area Community Foundation launched a bold, three-year strategic framework developed with input from our Board of Governors, donors, nonprofit partners, and other community leaders. As we approach the culmination of this three-year period, we are thrilled to share the tremendous growth and impact achieved by the Foundation, all made possible by your support.

Through Women in Philanthropy and other initiatives, the Foundation focused on civic engagement, financial education, and affordable childcare and housing. These open dialogues, which included key partners, will help ensure equity is at the core of community impact objectives.
Responding to rising costs and inflation, our board approved an unprecedented $1 million special grant distribution and an additional distribution the following year, demonstrating the Foundation’s commitment to addressing critical community needs, and in both years, the Foundation administered more grants and scholarships than ever.

In the same period, NEPA Gives raised an impressive $2.3 million in just 48 hours to support our local nonprofit community. Additionally, our partnership with the City of Scranton in administering American Rescue Plan Act funding saw $1 million distributed to Lackawanna County nonprofits, addressing various post-pandemic-related challenges.

In addition to monetary support, the Foundation supported nonprofit capacity-building by hosting 17 training sessions and the fourth NEPA Learning Conference. More than 200 nonprofit professionals gathered over three days during the conference to network and learn from 45 local and nationally recognized experts.

Fueled by your generosity, we have seen significant progress throughout 2022-2023 and look forward to an even more impactful 2024. Thank you for your continued support!

With Appreciation,

Laura Ducceschi
Scranton Area Community Foundation President and CEO
