A Catalyst For
Change & Growth
Founded in 1954 by the Scranton Family, the Foundation began as a community trust to support charitable giving and long-term community growth. Over the decades, we have evolved to meet the changing needs of our region while remaining steadfast in our mission.
Key Milestones
1954
Established as The Scranton Foundation, a community trust.
1970
Expanded to Scranton Area Community Foundation to reflect a broader regional impact.
1988
Officially recognized as a public community foundation by the IRS.
1998
Converted from a trust to a corporation, becoming Scranton Area Community Foundation, Inc.
